2 down toward Rivelin dams |
3 |
4 Fly Agaric - poisonous - do not try tasting |
6 |
8 Rivelin lower dam |
9 embankment to Rivelin upper dam - difficult to get view of the top surface from paths |
11 about to join 'permissive footpath' Wyming Brook Drive |
16 |

44 Surrey Farm on the A57 road below |
48 tea break |
53 |
58 now heading South up to Conduit which leads into 'distant' Redmires upper reservoir |
60 not sure where, but moor land probably burnt to encourage new growth for grouse fattening for later shooting for sport. Take care not to eat poisonous lead pellets! |
61 conduit which feeds into the Redmires middle* Reservoir (in opposite direction) - *comes towards the top reservoir but feeds the middle reservoir? |
64 Long 'un-cropped' tailed sheep - are these wild? |
65 Southward towards Redmires upper Reservoir. Impressive decaying dry stone wall ahead |
66 |
67 |
68 |
73 still heading towards Redmire Reservoirs |
74 boarded walkway over muddy area eases walkers passage |
76 |
77 Redmires upper Reservoir embankment in view - water level very low |
79 Redmires' upper reservoir wall, middle reservoir and lower reservoir seen below us. The middle reservoir has a stone tower with a trussed bridge to it. Possibly a draw down tower? working? or is water now transferred by other means? |
80 |
83 Redmires upper Reservoir with no stone draw down tower? but now with pipe for pumping water to the middle Reservoir? |
89 Redmires Reservoirs and The long Causeway - a once important access from Sheffield to the Hope Valley |
90 |
91 OS map on site showing permissive paths in yellow around reservoirs (paths not walked on this ramble) except for Long Causeway marked to left (passing woods) |
94 up Long Causeway, having passed most of woods |
96 looking back at Redmires lower Reservoir? |
|
98 |
101 |
104 |
106 an interesting 'alignment' - Win Hill to right, Lose Hill behind it, and Man Tor to left |
109 Stanage Pole |
111 controlled moor land burning for grouse rearing for sport - Stanedge Lodge in foreground |
115 looking Soothwest at Stanage Edge - trig point (near High Neb) visible seemingly to right of Edge but actually close to it. |
118 Winhill Pike in middle, Lose Hill to its left and Grindslow Knoll above Edale behind? |
122 |
123 turning towards Stanage Edge (from Long Causeway) |
124 road running below part of Stanage Edge turns through Dennis Knoll, Hope Cement Plant at back and continues as New road towards bamford |
127 view from Stanage Edge |
131 rock climbers on Stanage Edge |
134 along the Edge |
137 Southward on the Edge |
138 looking back at Stanage Plantation just below the Edge |
139 view from Stanage Edge |
144 Millstone Edge (centre)?, Over Owler Tor to its left? |
146 |
149 looking from Edge at expanse of moor land behind it |
150 looking back at the Edge. Smoke from controlled burning seen earlier to right |
151 Trig Beacon at SE 'end' of Stanage Edge |
161 starting on a way down toward Burbage Upper Bridge |
163 lunch break sheltered from cold wind |
171 down towards Upper Burbage Bridge |
172 popular car parking spot near Burbage Bridge (on Ringinglow Road which can be 'icy' in witers |
173 Is this Cowper Stone? |
174 |
175 |
179 looking down Burbage Valley - Higger Tor in middle, Carl Wark 'Fort' lower down to left |
180 Information sign near Burbage Bridge - read about Carl wark |
184 Ox Stones - eroded by wind but surprisingly with some plants growing from cracks |
187 Ox Stone - Stanage Edge in distance to it's left |
189 |
190 |
193 the last of the Ox Stones |
195 about to turn left before Lady Cannings Plantation and then to cross Ringinglow Road into Open Access Land |
199 across Ringinglow Road and heading toward Brown Edge Farm |
202 moor land above suburbia |
206 |
208 entering walled stone lane to Brown Edge Farm |
209 |
210 a rather overgrown Hedgerow probably over 200 years old? needs carbon Dating? |
211 the city beyond sheep |
212 |
215 from Brown Edge Farm onto Fulwood Road - 11 of group turned left, one of group turned right. |
217 |
218 some recent rains - too late and too little to fill reservoirs for next year? Hopefully prays for rain will be answered? |
219 |
222 |
223 Knoll Top Farm, we turned left on path down to Redmire lower Reservoir just passed here. Arla - lower caption reads 'suppliers of farm assured milk to Milk Link- Britain's leading farmer-owned dairy business' |
229 Redmire lower Reservoir |
230 house seen down below before reaching reservoir - not too sure where it was but nice colours |
226 We, after 'touching' the lower reservoir, went on foot path East to this road then North down it, turning off to right (before reaching Wyming Brook Farm (seen here), onto Redmires conduit Path Eastward. Not clear where the conduit actually is and where it takes 'water'? |
236 on conduit path towards bus terminus (almost 2km) - see
route description. This path passes near a demolished World War
II 'prisoner of war camp'.
(This area also had POW camp in World War I - see walk 2021.05.30 picture 3 for interesting details) |
