b) We then walked through Canch Park (opposite The Priory Church) to the Cuckoo Canal at about SK.585:792, and from there to the blocked canal tunnel at SK.500:825 (some distance after Kiveton Park Station). We then continued from the blocked tunnel along the replacement 'Cuckow Way Path' turning off ~N at SK.488:824 (along the edge of Houses) to catch our train at Kiveton Bridge Station. However, the train was cancelled, and the group returned to Sheffield by other means.

201 The detritus here has nothing to do with the canal or its reconstruction - but is a shock after miles of pleasant scenery. |

222 Kiveton Park Station - we went further on to Kiveton Bridge Station |
223 The canal past Kiveton Park Station now ends at the tunnel which took it towards Chesterfield. The tunnel has been blocked off for many years somewhere between Kiveton Park and Kiveton Bridge Stations, and also on the Chesterfield side. Re-establishing the canal Tunnel, which passes under the M1 motorway, of course will be a major work - not sure if there is ant target date for this. There is now an above ground path for the Cuckoo Way between the tunnel's two blocked ends. |
