2019.11.27 SK402812 Ridgeway Moor (opposite St John the Evangelist Church), W along Church Lane and down steps to minor road, passing ford to the left. Track to Litfield Farm and turning SW to Geerlane Farm. Joining the Sheffield Country walk (SCW) on Doe Lane to a ford over The Moss and continuing uphill to turn right on a minor road at Troway (leaving the SCW) up to its junction with B5056. Left on the road for 100m, then S on a path between fields, passing the eastern end of Summerley airstrip, and into Apperknowle. Right on the High Street for 200m, turning left down Quarry Road and descending via Chapel Lane and Back Lane to Back Road to a footpath to the right, signed from the road, crossing fields SW past cottages down into Unstone on B6057. The road is crossed and followed to the right, passing under the railway bridge to turn immediately left up a track past Unstone Hall to field paths S at first then SW, following the Chesterfield Round Walk (CRW) past Ouzle Bank Cottage, to Bull Close Farm. N for 100m on field edge to stile into farmyard, continuing N along the farm road, turning left (SW) into a bridleway at Highfield to descend through woods to cross the A61 on its footbridge. Follow CRW through partially cleared Monk Wood, crossing a minor stream on a plank, leaving the plantation to field paths SW into woods above Barlow Brook, descending to a footbridge and into Barlow Fishery at Common Side. W on the track past the ponds to a squeeze stile at the far end of the site to a footpath (NW) Brindwoodgate, crossing a minor road and going a few paces uphill to a footpath. Follow the path via steps downhill, passing a house and garden, following the track around to resume NW progress uphill for 2km on a track to Cartledge Hall Farm. Turn right (N) on the minor road (Cartledge Lane) and left (W) on B6054 in Holmesfield to the track N just beyond The Angel PH, passing into Holmesfield Park Wood to Fanshawe Gate Lane, turn right for 100m to a footpath NW on the boundary of Woodthorpe Hall (rejoining SCW), descending across a field to a stile into Gillfield Wood and Totley Hall Lane to the A621 at Cross Scythes PH - leader Simon Gray - Wednesday - (Simon has also written this well detailed walks description and helped on picture captions)
