at Worsborough Mill |
This pond is apparently the headrace. |
The actual 'mill' is in the lower building. The waterwheel is behind the opening to the left but not easy to see in the dark. |
mill entrance |
The reservoir was built to supply
water to the Worsbrough branch of
the Dearne and Dove Canal and it was
completed in 1804. It was enlarged
in 1826, when the depth was
increased by about 1.5 metres. Two
new spillways were installed in 1984
to comply with the Reservoirs Safety
Act.

This large stone obelisk in Rainborough Park is in the memory of Queen Anne next to Queen Annes Lodge It was commissioned by Thomas Wentworth in 1733 in memory of his friend and mentor, Queen Anne, who had died 20 years earlier. |
The obelisk - Wentworth Castle is just visible to the right of it |

the safer crossing option is a steel footbridge (which replaced an earlier wooden bridge). |
These grit? stone stepping stones over the River Don with much dished wear look as if they were used for centuries and by many persons (can't find a full history) |
