Holiday in Yorkshire July 2021 RevA

During this uncertain period of Covid, it did not seem sensible or possible to travel abroad to see our family and grandchildren in Denmark, so we took a short four days holiday in Yorkshire with one of our daughters (who also lives in Sheffield) to see some of the interesting sights, I had seen on earlier walking holidays.

Jervaulx Abbey with its flowers and plants (2021.07.20)

1 J M Turner in 1816 visited this Cistercian Abbey founded in 1156 (650 years earlier)
2 Plan view of Jervaulx Abbey - can you match the ruined remnants with this plan? Henry VIII sanctioned the dissolution of all monastries in 1540

7 A roofed area remaining - supported by arches - 8 arches per column - a nightmare to design without computers? and difficult to build? Not clear how roof was originally waterproofed - green tinge could indicate water penetration and dampness?
