2023.01.15 Walk Sunday – Start Bamford Bus stop SK.207:285 (SW of Station), ~W on Access Rd then N on Foot Bridge over River Derwent, follow edge of Hope Rd N /W past Nursery & cross road ~S at SK.203:826 then across Road Bridge (over The River Noe), but don’t turn to Shatton, take FP ~S (diverging from The River Noe) which joins minor road at SK.203:822, & turn WNW along it for 100m then follow FP SSW past Westfield and up to the East Side of Old Lees Farm, turn ESE to ~SK202.818, then turn NNE / E / ESE (to South of Garnier House) & continue to SK.209:817, then E on FP (to North of Glover Barn) for 300m to join ‘Other Route with Public Access’ and follow this SSE then S between Offerton Hall & House. Leave this access road at SK.213:810 & enter OAL, follow path ~SSW for ~120m then W for ~200m, then SW up to Offerton Edge and continue SW to cross Siney Sitch, continue SW & just after leaving OAL turn S to join Abney Road at SK.210.800, follow road ~WSW for ~220m, then turn ~SE on path, then roughly E and SE on North side above the River in Abney Clough & down to Stoke Ford at SK.211:795, ~S (slightly W) above Bretton Brook to SK.210:789 then turn ~W slightly S still keeping above Bretton Brook on its South side on a rough ‘erratic’ path for about 2km, jump North across B. Brook at SK.190:783 (the marked FB was washed away many years ago?), then Northward up to the West side of Abney Farm / Grange, ~W for very short distance along access road then turn NNW crossing Abney Rd at SK.189:786, NNW thru OAL Abney Moor for~2.5km to join Brough Lane at SK.184:802, * group turn off at SK.184:803 W then NW down to Bradwell and at SK.174:812 NNE on paths to Brough, but then went N along the B4049 & skew crossed Hope Road to left towards Aston, then follow FPs / roads to Thornhill, then SSE on FP to the Quaker Centre SK.202:830 - then either back to the Bus stop by a) down to the Nursery / Hope Rd and the original route to the Bus Stop or b) cutting from Quaker Centre on FP/road ESE to Station Rd and S along it to the Bus Stop.
Leader Liz Savage, 11 in party about 12 miles but with stiff climbs and some rough ground. *photographer left walk here and went down Brough Lane then on short part of Roman Rd to Hope Road arriving at 14.55 to catch 272 bus to Sheffield at 15.00hrs (bus +about 15minute - late from Castleton then Bradwell)
