2020.05.20** a 'social distancing' solo walk - Mortimer Rd SK245945 (parked nearby on rd), follow Dukes Rd (a dirt track) app 5km to SK207934, ~NW thru moor land converging on Cartledge Brook (a main tributary of Abbey Brook drawing water from Featherbed Moss), cross S over Cartledge Brook at SK199940, follow Grouse Butts ~WSW, then turn ~W to Howden Edge at SK187938, narrow grassy path on edge ~S, turn at SK187932 W on Jeep track for short distance, turn S off Jeep track to SK183928  (above a clough) and continue ~WSW down on a path / then track to the Reservoir perimeter track (~200m S of Howden Dam Wall - not seen), cross S on perimeter track over Bridge over Abbey Brook, at SK171920 start E (slightly N) up Abbey Brook, pass Cogman Clough / Wild Moor Clough / Sheepfold Clough and back to SK207934 - retrace Dukes Rd to Mortimer Rd - done on a Wednesday  Note this walk was done in very dry ground conditions - in wet moor land conditions along Cartledge Brook (a common situation) care needs to be exercised to avoid being trapped in deep slushy ground.

an unusual dry view along Dukes Road
quite a bump even for a Land Rover possibly on a rescue mission?
beacons along the route - very useful when routes are snow covered
The point where I started thru moor land towards Cartledge Brook
few really defined paths in the moor land - routes may change according to ground conditions

Grouse Butts

would seem to indicate that these Grouse Butts may be seldom used by the shooting fraternity fond of champagne & canapes?
