2020.04.05 ** a 'social distancing' solo walk - Burncross - cnr Burncross Rd & Blackburn Rd SK343962, find & join FP running ~E above cemetery, to join Housley Lane ~N & then Housley Park ~E to cross Loundside (rd) to NE on Mafeking Place (rd) to FP ~E over railtrack then S to join Arundel Rd ~E to Station Rd. Follow Station Rd N then NNE on White Lane to cross bridge over M1 motorway. Follow FP below Hood Hill Farm roughly E crossing Kirby Lane / Barnsley Rd to Barley Hall Cottage, ~NNE to Spittal Houses then NE to Wentworth to the Old Church then turning ~ESE to the New Church, turn ~NE for ~150m to join Main Street ~ ESE, at War Memorial rd ~ENE past closed* entrance to Wentworth Woodhouse then NNE past Glen House Green to just past Lee Wood, FP ~W to Needle Eye, return ~ESE to pass Street then turning from Street Lane ~E on FP to Hoober Stand, ~S to rejoin Street Lane, join & follow Hoober Lane ~E for ~250m turning ~ESE on FP to Low Stubbin, ~S on Stubbin Rd past Higher Stubbin & crossing Cortworth Lane & into Nether Haugh, FP ~S then W to Mauseleum, ~SW on FP down to rd & ~400m ~WNW along it turning SW on Rotherham Round Walk between Morley Pond & Dog Kennel Pond, continue SW turning ~S into Scholes Coppice & follow SSE along its edge and thru fields up to Keppel's Column, thru village to A629 Rd - long walk along road over M1 35 junction to Chapeltown up Burncross Road. Note *1 entrance closed due to virus situation
Cemetery above Burncross Road. Footpath follows above it. Some headstones toppled for safety reasons. Wharncliffe Chase and several woods behind. |
